Sports Festival Full Rehearsal: First All-School Practice, Perfectly in Sync!

During the 5th and 6th periods today, students took part in a full rehearsal for the upcoming Sports Festival.
It was the first time all students gathered together for practice,
yet their performance — including a run-through of the opening ceremony — was so smooth and well-coordinated
that it was hard to believe this was their first full rehearsal.

Each student stayed focused and cooperative, showing impressive discipline and team spirit.

The big day is Friday, October 17.
While we’re keeping an eye on the weather forecast,
let’s keep doing our best in every preparation
so that Hokuryō Junior High can deliver a truly spectacular and safe Sports Festival!

Today’s School Lunch

Today’s menu was:
・Italian Spaghetti
・Sauerkraut-style Cabbage
・Curry-flavored Fried Fish
・Mini Koppe Bread Roll
・Milk

On spaghetti day, the item count may be modest, but the portions are hearty—always a student favorite.

Today also marked the start of the new Student Council term.
The team jumped right into the lunchtime broadcast, with continuing members confidently teaching two first-year rookies the steps of running the program.
Having lunch outside the classroom made it a fresh experience for the new officers as well.

We look forward to working together over the coming year.

Inauguration Ceremony for New Student Council Officers: A Fresh Start for Hokuryō

This morning’s school assembly featured the inauguration ceremony for the new Student Council officers.
Each newly appointed officer received a certificate of recognition from the Principal,
their eyes shining with renewed determination and pride as they accepted their new responsibilities.

The Principal expressed heartfelt appreciation to the outgoing officers
for their leadership and dedication,
and offered warm words of encouragement to the newly appointed team
as they begin their important work of shaping the school’s future.

Following the ceremony, both the former Student Council President’s farewell speech
and the new President’s address were delivered to a hall filled with warm applause.
It was a moment of true continuity — a passing of the torch —
marking the start of a new chapter for Hokuryō Junior High School.

Whole-School Assembly: Principal’s Address (October 15, 2025)

We have just concluded the certification ceremony. To all newly elected officers, I look forward to working with you over the coming year. And to the third-year students who are retiring from their Student Council roles, thank you for your tremendous service.

The work of a Student Council officer may look glamorous from the outside, but in truth it’s built on countless, steady tasks. Especially here at Hokuryō: morning greetings, lunchtime announcements, preparing for events—and cleaning up afterward—your daily to-do list is truly long. I have often been amazed by both the volume and the quality of what you accomplish. None of this is “ordinary.” Because you only know Hokuryō, it may seem normal—but a council that sustains this level of daily effort is likely unique even within Osaka City. You should be proud.

At last week’s third-year assembly, everything—from emceeing to the remarks on stage—was carried out entirely by the third-years. Of course, teachers offered guidance and held planning meetings. But it was you who stood on stage, ran the program, created the atmosphere, and brought it all together. It was a true culmination of your work.

Now, a request as we look to “the year ahead”: “Do the Right Thing.” That single phrase says it all. It’s also the title of a film by the renowned American director Spike Lee. Whenever I face a difficult choice, I return to this question—“Is this the right thing?”—and decide accordingly. As Student Council officers, you will face more moments of uncertainty precisely because you are in front of everyone. At times, the popular choice and the right choice won’t be the same.

For example: “Let’s allow students to bring snacks to school and eat them during class.” How about that? Such a campaign promise might win popularity—but is it right? In moments like that, choose what is Right.

Finally, our long-awaited Sports Day is this week. I hope each of you stays healthy and gives your best.

Year 3 Achievement Test / Sports Festival Coming This Weekend

Normally, Tuesdays begin with our whole-school assembly,
but today is a special day — the Year 3 Achievement Test (3rd term).
It’s a challenging schedule with five subjects in one day,
so take a deep breath, stay focused, and push through to the very end.

This weekend marks our long-awaited Sports Festival.
Year 3 students, as you balance your studies and preparations for exams,
make this event the highlight of your final year — a day you’ll always remember.
Year 2 students, you are the core of the school;
lead with energy, teamwork, and set the pace for everyone.
And Year 1 students, this is your first-ever Sports Festival — enjoy it to the fullest
and learn from the seniors’ effort and spirit.

At the Horikawa Elementary School Sports Day I recently attended,
the sixth graders’ stunning performances left a deep impression.
Let’s make sure that Hokuryō Junior High shines just as brightly.

Osaka City Junior High School Cultural Festival “Art Exhibition” --- Encountering Paintings That Moved the Heart

The Osaka City Junior High School Cultural Federation’s Art Exhibition, which began on Tuesday, October 7, concluded today.
I visited the Osaka City Museum of Fine Arts on its final day.

The exhibition hall was filled wall-to-wall with two-dimensional artworks created by students from junior high schools across the city.
From colorful paintings to detailed sketches, design works, and prints, each piece reflected the artist’s time, care, and emotion.
Every school’s entries were outstanding — the kind of works that make you pause and simply look a little longer.

Among them, Hokuryō Junior High School’s works stood out with their distinct presence.
The use of color, the balance of composition, and the perspective on each subject — all expressed a clear and confident voice of individuality.
Each piece seemed to carry the artist’s breath and emotion, quietly touching the hearts of those who viewed it.

We would like to extend our deepest respect to all the participating students and schools,
as well as heartfelt gratitude to the teachers and staff who guided and supported them,
and to the organizers who made this exhibition possible.
Once again, the power of art reminded us how gently — yet powerfully — it connects people.
