Culture Festival Part 2 – Brass Band Club Concert

The culture festival concluded with a concert by the brass band club.

The results of the many months of daily practice were fully visible on stage, and every piece was performed with great concentration and outstanding quality.

Each time a third-year student finished a solo, the students in the audience responded with loud applause and cheers.
They also nailed the final encore, showing the truly “cool” presence of the brass band club right up to the very last moment.

To all the third-year brass band members, thank you for your three years of dedication.
Today’s performance is something you can be proud of, and it has set a clear benchmark for your younger bandmates to aim for from now on.
The experience you have built up over these three years will surely become a steady source of strength for you in many situations in the future.

We would also like to thank all the parents and guardians who came to school despite it being a weekday, and for your continued understanding, support, and warm encouragement.

Culture Festival Part 1: Chorus Contest – Performances by Prize-Winning Classes

The Culture Festival, originally scheduled for October 31, had to be postponed twice due to temporary school closures caused by influenza, but we were finally able to hold it this afternoon.

Starting with the first-year students, each grade’s classes that had won the Excellence Prize or the Grand Prize in the chorus contest took the stage to perform.
As expected of prize-winning classes, every grade and every class delivered wonderful singing that cherished the world of each song and conveyed their feelings.

Among these, the chorus by the third-year students, performing as the culmination of their three years at Hokuryō, was clearly at a different level.
Not only the power of their voices but also the feelings woven into the lyrics and their strong sense of unity came across, leaving a powerful legacy for their younger schoolmates.

In spite of the event being held on a weekday afternoon, many parents and guardians came to school to watch the performances.
We are deeply grateful for your warm applause that supported the students’ efforts, as well as for your understanding and cooperation with the repeated schedule changes.

Today’s School Lunch

Today’s menu was:
・Bibimbap (Meat)
・Bibimbap (Vegetable)
・Wakame Seaweed Soup
・Mini Fried Fish
・Steamed Rice
・Milk

Following Chinese and Japanese menus earlier this week, today featured Korean cuisine.
Bibimbap is Korean “비빔밥 (bibimbap)”, from “비비다 (bibida)” = to mix and “밥 (bap)” = rice—literally “mixed rice.”
Typical toppings include seasoned minced meat and assorted namul: spinach (시금치, sigeumchi), bean sprouts (콩나물, kongnamul), carrot, zenmai fern, and more, all arranged for color and texture, then finished with 고추장 (gochujang) and a drizzle of sesame oil.
Its hallmark is the harmony of colors, textures, gentle heat, and umami—one reason it’s so beloved as a home-style dish.
Served in a hot stone bowl, it’s called 돌솥비빔밥 (dolsot bibimbap), famous for its toasty, crispy rice.

In Class 1-2, students were full of energy as they prepared for their upcoming culture festival stage performance.
They served cheerfully and began lunch together with a lively “Itadakimasu!”

Open Lesson (2nd-Year Class 1, Science)
Today we welcomed an advisor from the Osaka City Comprehensive Education Center, who observed an experimental science lesson in 2nd-Year Class 1.
The theme was to estimate the amount of water vapor currently in the science room based on its temperature, combining measurement with calculation and discussion.
Students themselves estimated the classroom volume and carried out the entire process—from measurement to calculation and recording—on their own.
Amid a friendly atmosphere, we saw clear collaborative learning with effective role-sharing.
After the lesson, the advisor provided post-lesson feedback, offering many concrete suggestions that will inform our next steps, such as clarifying evaluation viewpoints and deepening student reflection.
We will build on today’s learning to create even better lessons.

1st-Year Grade Assembly: Nutrition Lecture

Today our 1st-year students held a grade assembly featuring a visit from a licensed nutrition teacher from Horikawa Elementary School.
With clear slides and explanations, the lecture on “Meals and Health for Junior High Students” was easy to follow and highly informative.

Both study and sports rest on the foundation of good health.
And it is daily meals that build that healthy body.
The role of meals for junior high students—especially in supporting growth—was emphasized.

In particular, we learned that girls often need more nutrients during junior high than they typically do in adulthood.
We also reviewed the importance of eating breakfast, with concrete tips and examples.

At the end, the teacher encouraged everyone with the message that “Health comes first.”
Please eat well, and keep doing your best in both study and exercise.
We extend our sincere thanks for taking the time to speak to our students.
