A New Week Begins: Student Council Election & Midterm Results

A new week has begun.
Today, during Period 6, we will hold the Student Council Election and Candidate Speech Assembly.
This morning, each candidate greeted students cheerfully at the school entrance, showing their dedication and enthusiasm to make Hokuryō an even better place.

Also, starting today, students will begin receiving their midterm exam results.
As mentioned in a previous post, the real value of a test begins after it’s over.
Don’t leave your mistakes unchecked—review them carefully and think about why you made them.
Then, redo the questions to solidify your understanding.
The effort you put in today will lead to tomorrow’s progress.

Students Participate in the 36th Osaka City Mayor’s Cup English Recitation & Speech Contest

Today, Saturday, October 4, the 36th Osaka City Mayor’s Cup Junior High School English Recitation and Speech Contest was held at the Yatanaka Combined Elementary and Junior High School auditorium.

From Hokuryō Junior High School, one student participated in the Recitation Division and two students participated in the Speech Division.
All three gave impressive performances with confident pronunciation and expressive gestures, earning enthusiastic applause from their families and teachers in the audience.

Although our representative in the Recitation Division did not place in the final results, standing on stage and speaking English clearly and proudly in front of a large audience was a remarkable achievement in itself.
We hope this valuable experience will inspire each of them to continue growing and challenging themselves in the future.

Today’s School Lunch

Today’s menu was:
・Sagoshi (Young Spanish Mackerel) with Grated Daikon Sauce
・Pumpkin Miso Soup

The two-day midterm exams have finished.
You could see the relief on students’ faces across the school.

In Class 3-1, students cheerfully prepared the meal while predicting their scores and looking back on the tests together.

For the 3rd-year students, the third proficiency test is coming up in 11 days.

Today’s School Lunch

Today’s menu was:
・Chicken and Sweet Potato Stew
・Napa Cabbage Pickles
・Apple
・Brown Sugar Bread
・Milk

It was Day 1 of the midterm exams, and after putting their brains to work, everyone came to lunch with healthy appetites.
The stew was wonderfully hearty—chicken, bacon, sweet potato, onion, carrot, green peas, and canned mushrooms. The generous mushrooms, in particular, added great depth to the flavor.

In Class 2-1, students started together with a cheerful “Itadakimasu!”
After lunch, they plan to head home, reminding one another to commute safely.

Midterm Exams Begin Today: Two Days of Challenge

The photos show the atmosphere in Class 1 of each grade.
Stay calm, focus, and give it your best effort!

Scores are important, but the midterm exams are above all an excellent opportunity to check how well you have understood your daily learning.
The questions you answered correctly can boost your confidence, and the ones you missed should be seen positively—it’s better to notice gaps now than later.
Midterms make visible the ups and downs of your understanding, allowing you to adjust your study plan for the coming lessons and the final exams.

When reviewing, first identify why mistakes happened: lack of knowledge, misreading, calculation errors, or time management.
Then decide on your next steps: more review of the basics, additional practice, organising terms and formulas, or improving your checking routine.
Never leave questions unresolved—ask teachers and make sure to understand them.

Don’t leave mistakes as they are—always correct them!
Today’s effort will build tomorrow’s strength.
