☆さつまいも☆

　さつまいもは、コロンブスによってアメリカ大陸からヨーロッパへ伝えられ、東南アジア、中国へと広がったといわれています。日本へは1600年ごろ、中国から琉球（今の沖縄県）へ伝わりました。その後、薩摩（今の鹿児島県）へ広まり、「さつまいも」と呼ばれるようになりました。

Raisin bread, a spicy-savory simmered dish, candied sweet potatoes (*daigaku-imo*), a cucumber salad with a Chinese-style dressing, and milk.

☆Sweet Potatoes☆

It is said that sweet potatoes were brought from the Americas to Europe by Christopher Columbus, and subsequently spread to Southeast Asia and China. They reached Japan around the year 1600, arriving in the Ryukyu Kingdom (present-day Okinawa Prefecture) from China. From there, they spread to the Satsuma domain (present-day Kagoshima Prefecture), which is how they came to be known as *satsumaimo* ("Satsuma potatoes").
