Title: Thinking Together About Life and Bullying — A Lesson Across All Year Groups
In Period 1 today, students across all year groups took part in lessons exploring the themes of bullying and the value of life. Each year group used materials suited to their stage of development, and in every classroom, students engaged with the topic thoughtfully and sincerely.
Year 9 focused on how to truly listen when a friend confides something important. The lesson began with the difference between simply hearing and genuinely listening, and through role-play activities, students experienced first-hand how to choose words that meet the other person's feelings. Towards the end of the lesson, the teacher reminded students that when a conversation becomes too heavy to carry alone, turning to a trusted adult is itself a meaningful choice.
Year 8 explored the "structure" of bullying through a case study set against the backdrop of a choral competition. Students were asked to step into the shoes of each character in the story and imagine how they might have felt at different moments. Bullying does not arise solely from one person's ill will — it can also grow out of misaligned feelings and the atmosphere around them. Many students were seen nodding quietly as this idea came into focus.
Year 7 took up the theme "Becoming a class that can notice bullying" during their moral education lesson. Drawing on familiar everyday situations, students considered two questions: what is actually happening here, and once we notice, what can we do? In small group discussions, they exchanged ideas with one another and put their reflections into their own words.
The ways of learning differed from year to year, yet the root that ran through every classroom — caring about another person — remained the same. We sincerely hope that each line the students wrote today will quietly take root and grow in the days ahead.
