Welcoming School Adviser Kashiwagi for Research Lessons in Three Subjects
Today we welcomed School Adviser Kashiwagi from the Osaka City Comprehensive Education Centre, who observed research lessons taught by three of our teachers. Over the course of the morning, the adviser visited three classrooms: Home Economics with Year 7 Class 1 in Period 2, Social Studies with Year 8 Class 2 in Period 3, and Japanese with Year 7 Class 2 in Period 4.
In Home Economics, the steps for cooking hamburger steak and vegetable side dishes were set out on the blackboard as a row of photo cards, and the class worked through the process one step at a time. On the lectern was the question "What would make this lesson a great success by the time it ends?", a thoughtful way of sharing the lesson's goal with pupils from the start.
In Social Studies, a graph showing changes in Japan's number of births and total fertility rate was displayed on the interactive screen, and pupils worked on reading social change from the data. In Japanese, traditional month names such as Mutsuki (the old name for January) appeared on screen, and the lesson seemed to explore the links between language and the seasons.
With a visitor in the room, pupils looked just a little nervous at first. As the lessons went on, however, they settled back into their usual rhythm, and in every classroom we saw them engaging actively with their learning.
In Period 5 this afternoon, the adviser will give each teacher feedback and advice on their lesson, and we will put these insights to good use as we continue to develop our teaching. Our sincere thanks go to School Adviser Kashiwagi for taking the time to visit us.
Team Hokuryō, let's keep making the most of every lesson, just as you did today, and go on building a school you want to come back to tomorrow together.
