Energetic Greetings and a Year Group That Shapes Its Own Culture — Year 8's First Regular Assembly
This morning, student volunteers from the Living Environment Committee were once again greeting everyone with enthusiasm near the school gate. With so many voices joining in, the chorus of greetings was truly impressive, and students arriving at school couldn't help but break into smiles.
Today marked the very first regular year-group assembly for our Year 8 students since they moved up to their new grade.
The assembly began with a talk from the head of year about building the right atmosphere as Year 8 students. Every year group develops its own unique "air," the teacher explained. When a positive atmosphere takes root, things like lining up, taking seats, and listening attentively all fall into place naturally. On the other hand, even small lapses in focus can accumulate and spread as a negative influence across the entire year group. The message was clear: each student should ask themselves, "What should I be doing right now?" — and aim to be a year group that lines up smoothly, sits down promptly, and acts with composure, all without needing to be told twice. At this fresh starting point, the teacher encouraged everyone to work together to create the best possible environment.
Next, class representatives from each homeroom took to the stage to introduce themselves. Students serving for the first time shared words such as, "There's a lot I don't know yet, but I'll do my best," while more experienced representatives declared their intention to "draw on past experience to lead our class and year group forward." Every representative spoke with conviction about their goals for the coming six months, and a shared desire came through clearly: to make their classes comfortable, their year group bright and enjoyable, and to build something better together.
The representatives' council also announced the goal for the first semester: "As reliable seniors, let's get even better at switching between focus and fun." The goal for April was confirmed as "getting the basics right in preparation for the upcoming outdoor learning trip." To achieve this, class representatives will divide roles — some leading from the front to organise the group, others observing from the sides and back to offer support — strengthening unity across the entire year group. They also agreed to start reminding one another to be ready even before the bell rings.
In addition, announcements were made by the Information, Living Environment, and Health committees, reflecting a year-group-wide commitment to building a positive school life together. Since becoming Year 8 students, a spirit of student-led self-governance — thinking for themselves and taking action on their own — has been growing quietly but surely. It was an assembly that made this growth genuinely felt.
We very much look forward to watching our Year 8 students continue to grow. We kindly ask families to keep supporting and encouraging your children at home as well.
