Off to School With a Smile, Even on a Rainy Morning! — Year 8 Assembly & Year 9 Takes on the National Assessment
Wednesday, April 23 — The day began with grey skies and steady rain, but that didn't dampen our students' spirits. Umbrellas in hand, they walked through the school gates cheerfully greeting one another with bright "Good mornings."
Year 8 students gathered in the gymnasium for a year-group assembly. A teacher introduced opportunities to go abroad, including student exchange programmes, showing that international experiences may be closer than students think. Drawing on personal experiences in Senegal and several other countries, the teacher used slides to explain various overseas living arrangements such as homestays, shared houses, and student dormitories.
One message stood out in particular: "When you go abroad, you become the minority." The teacher shared how such experiences naturally build empathy and understanding towards people in different circumstances — a theme that echoed the principal's address at a recent whole-school assembly. When the slide reading "Breaking Free from Assumptions — Is 'Normal' Really Normal?" appeared on screen, students could be seen watching intently with thoughtful expressions.
Year 9 students are sitting the National Assessment of Academic Ability today. Starting from the first period, they are currently focused and working through the papers. We hope they can stay calm and show what they have learned.
With temperatures fluctuating at this time of year, we kindly ask families to keep an eye on their children's health and wellbeing.
