Cherishing Everyday Life – Year 7 Assembly
We begin with this morning’s arrival at school. In contrast to yesterday, it was a bright, crisp morning, and pupils made their way in under clear skies. Rain is forecast for this afternoon, so please take care on the way home.
On Wednesday 21 October, Year 7 held a year group assembly.
First, Nishino-sensei, our home economics teacher, spoke about the importance of cherishing everyday life. When Nishino-sensei was in the final year of junior high school, the COVID-19 pandemic turned school life upside down, and much-anticipated school events and the brass band competition were cancelled. The graduation album is full of photos of masked faces, and that sense of disappointment still lingers to this day.
Nishino-sensei also mentioned being moved by the performances at last week’s choir competition and school festival. Looking back years from now, the days we take for granted will turn out to have been truly precious, and the talk ended with an encouraging message: “Enjoy the youth that only now can give you, to the full.”
Next, the Head of Year 7 spoke about how the toilets are used. The year group reaffirmed that the toilets should be a place where everyone feels safe, and that respecting one another’s privacy and acting with consideration matters.
Finally, the class representatives from Class 4 took the stage. The boys’ representative reminded everyone to watch out for sudden temperature changes and influenza, and to look after their health, for instance by washing their hands regularly. The girls’ representative shared her goals as a newly appointed representative: “I don’t just want to lead from the front – I want to be someone who supports each and every person.” She also encouraged everyone to work together in the new committee activities.
The ordinary days that slip quietly by will one day become treasured memories. Let’s make today count, too, together with the people beside us.
