Today's School Lunch (Bulgogi)
Today's school lunch was the Korean dish "Bulgogi" (プルコギ).
Following the Bibimbap and Tteokguk served on April 20, this is the second Korean dish to appear in our school lunches this year.
Here is today's menu.
・"Bulgogi" (불고기)
・"Tofu and Wakame Soup"
・"Cucumber Namul" (나물)
・"Steamed Rice"
・"Milk"
"Bulgogi" means "fire meat" in Korean — beef marinated in a sweet and savory sauce and then grilled.
Today's bulgogi was seasoned with ginger, garlic, gochujang, and sesame oil, then mixed with onions and Chinese chives and grilled until fragrant.
The savory aroma and gentle sweet-and-spicy flavor went wonderfully with the rice.
"Namul" refers to a seasoned vegetable side dish. Today's version featured boiled cucumber tossed with sesame oil for a light and refreshing taste.
The soup was full of ingredients — wakame seaweed, tofu, bean sprouts, enoki mushrooms, carrots, and roast pork — with a gentle, comforting saltiness.
With vegetables, meat, soy products, seaweed, mushrooms, and grains all on the tray, it was a colorful and well-rounded meal.
In Class 1-1, the start of serving was a little slow, but once it got going, the students called out to one another and saw the job through to the end.
Next week, the Nature Experience Program (May 20–21) is just around the corner.
At this rate, we are sure the students will work together just as well when preparing and tidying up meals during their stay.
Thank you again for today's delicious lunch.
To our kitchen staff and serving staff — gochisousama deshita!
In Korean, we say "잘 먹었습니다 (Jal meogeosseumnida)."
