七年级学年集会 从「一两秒的体贴」谈起
今天从早上开始，天空就阴沉得仿佛随时都会下雨。上下学时，请大家务必注意脚下和来往车辆。
第一节课，我们在体育馆举行了七年级学年集会。这次的话题，从「厕所的使用方式」这样非常贴近日常的地方开始。
七年级的厕所，每天由七年四班的同学负责打扫。与以前相比，大家已经能够使用得干净许多了，但还有一些地方，希望每一个人都能再多留意一点。
比如，用完之后的电灯。花上一两秒确认一下「还有没有其他人在」，如果没有人，就把灯关掉。看看卫生纸是不是长长地垂着，马桶盖是不是开着。如果不小心弄脏了便器，就用旁边备好的刷子稍微清理一下再出来。洗手台也是一样，不要湿着手就冲到走廊上，而是把手擦干，看看周围有没有被弄湿弄脏。
这些都不是什么难事。需要的，只是为下一个使用的人着想的一点体贴。关键在于，愿不愿意花上那一两秒。「小小的体贴不断积累，才能塑造一个人」——在这样的话语中，可以看到同学们静静聆听的样子。
厕所绝不是「肮脏的地方」。进食摄取营养，再把身体不需要的东西排出体外，这是我们活下去不可缺少的事。正因如此，希望大家把它当作珍惜彼此身心的场所，一起愉快地使用。
而且，这段话并不只是关于厕所。有一句话叫「一事万事」。能够察觉身边小事的人，无论在学习、运动，还是在与朋友的相处中，都能够想到「有没有人正遇到困难」「自己的行为会不会给别人添麻烦」。
集会上，还介绍了一句在剑道中被珍视的话：「胜有不可思议之胜，败无不可思议之败」。有时会意外地顺利，但当事情没能做好时，某处必定存在原因。日常生活中小小的松懈与疏忽，或许也是其中之一。
中学生活，是每一天的积累。今后会有社团的比赛与引退，再往前还有高中入学考试。与其只在重要日子的前夕努力，不如在平凡的每一天里，把行动做得更细致一些。
走出厕所前的短短一两秒。这样小小的察觉与体贴，既是珍惜自己，也是珍惜身边的人。希望作为北棱团队的一员，大家能够在今后的校园生活中，一点一点地积累下去。

Year 7 Assembly: Starting with One or Two Seconds of Consideration
The sky looked ready to rain from early this morning. Please take extra care of your footing and of passing traffic on the way to and from school.
In period one, we held a Year 7 assembly in the gymnasium. The talk began with something very close to home: how we use the toilets.
The Year 7 toilets are cleaned every day by the students of Year 7 Class 4. Compared with before, they are being used far more considerately now, but there are still a few things we would like each student to notice.
Take the light, for example. Spend just a second or two checking whether anyone else is still there, and if not, switch it off. Check whether the toilet paper has been left hanging down, or the lid left open. If the bowl has been soiled, use the brush provided to tidy it a little before leaving. The same goes for the washbasins: rather than dashing out into the corridor with wet hands, dry them properly and check that nothing around has been splashed.
None of this is difficult. What it takes is simply a little consideration for the next person who will use the space. The question is whether we are willing to spend that one or two seconds. As the talk turned to how small acts of consideration, repeated over time, shape a person, the students were seen listening quietly.
A toilet is by no means a "dirty place". Taking in nourishment and letting the body release what it no longer needs are both essential to living. That is exactly why we hope everyone will treat it as a place where we care for one another's minds and bodies, and use it comfortably together.
And this is not only about toilets. There is a Japanese saying: "one thing tells you everything" (ichiji ga banji). Those who can notice small things around them are also able to think, in their studies, in sport, and in their friendships, "Is anyone struggling here?" and "Might what I am doing cause trouble for someone else?"
The assembly also introduced a phrase valued in kendo: "There are strange victories, but no strange defeats." Things may sometimes go unexpectedly well, but when they go wrong, there is always a cause somewhere. A small lapse or moment of carelessness in everyday life may well be one of them.
Life at junior high school is built on the accumulation of ordinary days. Club competitions and the end of club careers lie ahead, and beyond them, high school entrance examinations. Rather than trying hard only in the days just before something important, what matters is how carefully we act on the most ordinary days.
Just one or two seconds before leaving the toilet. That small act of noticing and of consideration is a way of valuing yourself, and of valuing the person beside you. As members of Team Hokuryō, we hope our students will build up these small habits, little by little, in the school life ahead.
