Whole-School Assembly: Getting Ready for the Choral Competition / Thank You for Completing the Lesson Survey
Since early morning, singing has been drifting through every corner of the school. The Choral Competition takes place on Thursday 15 October, and this morning, ahead of the big day, we gathered in the gym for a whole-school assembly.
The headteacher began by talking about the mock interviews recently completed with every Year 9 pupil. Even when someone was too nervous to find their words, the others never laughed; they listened carefully right to the end. Touching on the idea of empathy, imagining yourself in someone else’s position, he explained that waiting quietly and listening to the end are also ways of caring for others.
From there, the talk turned to the competition itself: sing your hearts out, and listen to the other classes with real attention. Even the silence while others are singing shows respect for them. There were smiles around the hall when he mentioned that the deputy head has already been moved to tears just hearing the rehearsals. The full text of the talk is available in the attached PDF.

Next, the chair of the Student Life Committee gave a report. Recalling how flu spread last year and the competition had to be postponed twice, she called on the whole school: “Let’s look after our health, keep the classrooms well ventilated, and make this a competition to remember.” It is encouraging to see pupils themselves taking the lead on health and wellbeing.
“Look after yourself, and look after the person beside you.” We are looking forward to a day when singers and listeners alike can show that care for one another.
Notice: Thank You for Completing the Lesson Survey
On Friday 9 October, pupils brought home a letter about the lesson survey. Over the three-day weekend, many families have already responded, and we imagine many of you filled it in while chatting with your child about their lessons. Thank you very much.
The deadline is Friday 16 October. If you have not yet responded, please use the link in the notice sent to your child’s Classroom. Pupils may take their school Chromebook home to complete it, and if it is difficult to answer together as a family, pupils may respond on their own.
All responses are read directly by the headteacher, and individual answers will not be passed on to teachers. The combined results will be used to improve our lessons. Thank you for your continued support.
