Hokuryō Junior High School Artwork on Display at the Osaka City Junior High Schools Arts Festival Exhibition
The 35th Osaka City Junior High Schools Comprehensive Cultural Festival Art Exhibition is currently being held at the Osaka City Museum of Fine Arts, Tennoji Gallery, running from Tuesday 6 October to Sunday 11 October. The gallery is filled with work from junior high schools across the city, and pieces by Hokuryō pupils are among them.
The highlight of the Hokuryō section is the Year 9 self-portraits. Hidden within each one are the pupil’s appearance, name, birthday, experiences so far and hopes for the future. Club equipment, favourite things and places full of memories are all packed into a single picture. It was hard not to stop in front of each work and hunt for every little detail.
Work by Year 8 pupils is on display too. Each picture is divided up by bold black lines and filled in with vivid colours, much like a stained-glass window. The way the circles, triangles and other shapes are combined, and how the colours are layered, shows the care and ideas each pupil brought to their piece.
The theme of this year’s exhibition is “Send Your Feelings, Connect to the Future”. Each pupil’s feelings come through clearly, making it a genuinely rewarding exhibition to visit. Our heartfelt thanks go to the organising staff, who carefully hung such a large number of works and prepared the venue so well.
The exhibition runs until this Sunday, 11 October. If you are in the area, please do drop in and see the pupils’ work for yourself.
