First-Year Grade Assembly: Moving Forward Side by Side
A light rain began to fall around the time students arrived at school. It was a day that truly felt like the rainy season.
Today, the first-year students held a grade assembly.
At the beginning of the assembly, the students were reminded about the importance of listening attentively. Looking at the person who is speaking and concentrating on what is being said are attitudes that the entire grade will continue to value.
After that, the teacher in charge spoke about two main topics.
The first topic was school life since entering junior high school. Three months have passed since the students started in April. Through classes, school events, committee activities, and other daily experiences, the first-year students are gradually growing into junior high school students. In particular, during the nature experience program, there were many moments when students deepened their relationships with one another and strengthened their bonds as classes and as a grade.
At the same time, the teacher also pointed out some areas for further growth, such as being punctual, listening carefully to teachers’ instructions, and being aware of others during group activities. The lessons learned through school events should not end there; they should be applied to everyday school life.
The teacher also spoke about how to interact with friends. It is wonderful for students to become closer to one another, but casual words or actions can sometimes hurt others. A truly good friendship is one in which people think about each other’s feelings and treat each other with care.
The second topic was the World Cup. Sports have the power to inspire people not only through wins and losses, but also through the sight of athletes giving their all and continuing to challenge themselves toward a big goal.
The teacher also mentioned how Japanese supporters are known for picking up trash in the stadium after matches, and how Japan’s national team players leave their locker room clean. These actions are not done because someone tells them to, but as a way of expressing gratitude. Such actions connect closely to school life as well.
In school, there are also many students who work hard in ways that may not always be visible. Some students carry out committee or class duties, some take action for their class, some pick up things that have fallen, and some show care for those around them. Each of these small actions helps create a better grade and a better school.
After the teacher’s talk, two class representatives also spoke. One asked the students, “Are you able to switch properly between on and off?” The other spoke about this month’s goal: “Moving forward side by side with the person next to you.”
The first-year students still have great potential for growth. We hope they will make use of what they have learned so far, value their friends, and spend the remaining days of the first term with care and purpose.
