Sharing Hokuryo’s Learning and Creativity at Osaka City Central Public Hall (Osaka City Junior High School Cultural Festival)
The 35th Osaka City Junior High School Cultural Festival is taking place today, Saturday, October 24, and tomorrow, Sunday, October 25, at Osaka City Central Public Hall in Nakanoshima. Our school is participating through exhibitions and stage presentations from a range of subjects and clubs, sharing the results of students’ everyday learning and activities.
At today’s opening ceremony, our Science Club was honored for receiving a Merit Award at the 78th Osaka City Junior High School Student Science Research Presentation held in September. Osaka City Central Public Hall is a nationally designated Important Cultural Property. Being recognized in this historic setting, with the Superintendent of Education and many other guests looking on, was a special moment for students who have continued to investigate questions arising from everyday life. We hope the certificate they received, together with their memories of today, will encourage them in their future work.
At around 3 p.m., the students presented “What Is Turning the Wood Sorrel Red…? The Culprit Is 〇〇!” in the Main Hall on the first floor. Their research explores the leaf colors of wood sorrel, a plant commonly found along roadsides, through observations and experiments. After receiving recognition at the opening ceremony, the students took to the stage as presenters to share their findings with visitors.
The exhibition area on the third floor also features work created in various subjects and clubs at our school. Colorful paintings, wooden shogi boards and puzzles that showcase the character of the material, wool-felt ice cream and bread, and distinctive handmade figures have been catching visitors’ attention. Each piece reflects its creator’s ideas and thoughtful use of materials. The Science Club’s research reports are also on display.
Questions and ideas that began at school have developed into research and creative work, ready to be shared with a wider audience. The cultural festival offers students an opportunity both to introduce their everyday work and to discover exhibitions and presentations from other schools.
Tomorrow, Sunday, October 25, our Tea Ceremony Club will demonstrate the preparation and serving of tea. The exhibitions will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. If you have time, we warmly invite you to visit and enjoy the students’ learning and creativity.
